NEET UG 2026 Cancelled NTA Announces Re-Exam After Paper Leak Allegations

NEET UG 2026 Cancelled: NTA Announces Re-Exam After Paper Leak Allegations

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially cancelled the NEET UG 2026 examination conducted on 3 May 2026 after serious allegations of a paper leak and examination irregularities surfaced across multiple states. The shocking announcement has created panic and confusion among lakhs of medical aspirants who appeared for the country’s biggest medical entrance examination.

According to official reports, the decision was taken after inputs from central agencies and findings shared by law enforcement authorities indicated that the integrity of the examination process may have been compromised. The Government of India has also approved a detailed investigation into the matter, while the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is expected to conduct a comprehensive probe.

Why Was NEET UG 2026 Cancelled

The cancellation came after allegations of a “guess paper” leak started circulating on social media platforms and messaging groups before the examination. Investigators reportedly found that more than 100 questions from the circulated material closely matched the actual NEET UG 2026 paper.

The issue first emerged from Rajasthan, where authorities began investigating suspicious activities linked to coaching centres and paper leak networks. Later, the investigation expanded to other states, raising concerns about the fairness of the examination process nationwide.

Officials stated that maintaining transparency and fairness in national examinations is the top priority, and therefore cancelling the exam became necessary.

Official Statement by NTA

The National Testing Agency released an official statement confirming that the examination held on 3 May 2026 has been cancelled. The agency announced that a fresh examination will now be conducted on new dates, which will be announced soon through official channels.

NTA also clarified that students will not need to register again for the re-examination. Existing application forms, examination city preferences, and registration details will remain valid for the upcoming test. No additional examination fee will be charged from candidates.

The agency further mentioned that the decision was taken after reviewing evidence received from investigative agencies regarding possible irregularities in the conduct of the examination.

Massive Impact on Students

NEET UG is one of India’s largest entrance examinations, with more than 24 lakh students appearing every year for admission into MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other medical courses. The sudden cancellation has left students emotionally disturbed and mentally exhausted.

Many aspirants had spent several years preparing for the examination and were waiting for the answer key and results. However, the cancellation means they now have to restart revision and prepare once again for a fresh examination.

Parents and students across the country have expressed anger over repeated examination controversies involving national-level tests. Social media platforms were flooded with reactions, with students demanding stricter security measures and accountability from examination authorities

Paper Leak Allegations Explained

Reports suggest that investigators found a suspicious “guess paper” circulating before the examination. Several students allegedly received question sets through private groups and coaching contacts.

Authorities reportedly discovered strong similarities between those leaked papers and the actual NEET UG 2026 question paper. This led to searches, detentions, and questioning of several individuals connected to examination networks.

Investigators are now examining whether organized groups were involved in distributing confidential examination material before the exam date.

CBI Probe Ordered

Following the controversy, the Government of India ordered a detailed investigation into the matter. The CBI is expected to examine all allegations related to paper leaks, malpractice, and irregularities connected to NEET UG 2026.

Officials believe that a central investigation is necessary to identify those responsible and restore public confidence in the national examination system.

The investigation may involve questioning coaching centres, examination staff, and individuals suspected of involvement in the leak network.

Will There Be a Re-NEET 2026?

Yes. NTA has officially confirmed that a fresh NEET UG 2026 examination will be conducted for all candidates. However, the new examination date has not yet been announced.

Students are advised to regularly check the official NTA website and trusted news sources for updates regarding:

• New examination date

• Admit card release

• Revised exam guidelines

• Examination centre information

• Updated schedule

Authorities are expected to release detailed instructions in the coming days.

Will Students Need to Apply Again?

No. Students will not need to submit a fresh application form. The NTA has clarified that all previous registration details will remain valid for the re-examination.

Candidates who already paid the application fee will not have to pay again. Existing examination city preferences and personal details will automatically be considered for the fresh examination process.

Student Reactions Across India

The cancellation has triggered mixed reactions among students. While some aspirants supported the decision in the interest of fairness, others expressed frustration because they now have to prepare again under intense pressure.

Several students on online forums and social media platforms criticized the repeated failures in examination management. Many aspirants said the uncertainty has increased stress levels and affected their mental health.

One student reaction on Reddit described the situation as “playing with the lives of lakhs of students,” while others questioned why paper leaks continue to occur in major competitive examinations.

Previous Exam Controversies

This is not the first time national entrance examinations have faced allegations of irregularities. In recent years, several recruitment and entrance tests across India have witnessed paper leak claims, technical glitches, and malpractice concerns.

The NEET examination itself faced controversies in previous years, leading to court hearings and public debates over examination transparency. Educational experts have repeatedly emphasized the need for stronger cybersecurity systems and stricter monitoring mechanisms.

What Should NEET Aspirants Do Now?

Students are advised not to panic and instead focus on maintaining their preparation for the upcoming re-examination. Since the syllabus and pattern are expected to remain unchanged, aspirants should continue revising important topics regularly.

Experts recommend the following steps:

• Continue daily revision schedules

• Solve previous year question papers

• Practice mock tests regularly

• Avoid fake news and rumors on social media

• Follow only official updates from NTA

• Maintain mental and physical health

Students should also avoid depending on unofficial reports regarding exam dates until NTA releases an official notification.

Will NEET Counselling Be Delayed?

Since the examination has been cancelled and a fresh test will be conducted, the entire admission timeline is expected to shift. This may delay:

• Result declaration

• Counselling process

• College admissions

• Academic session commencement

Medical colleges and counselling authorities will likely release revised schedules after the re-examination is completed.

Concerns Over Examination Security

Education experts and parents have raised serious concerns regarding examination security in India. Many believe stronger digital monitoring, encrypted paper handling systems, and tighter surveillance are urgently required to prevent future leaks.

Several coaching experts have suggested implementing AI-based tracking systems and stricter penalties for those involved in malpractice.

The controversy has once again highlighted the immense pressure faced by students appearing in high-stakes examinations

Conclusion

The cancellation of NEET UG 2026 has become one of the biggest education controversies of the year. While the decision aims to ensure fairness and transparency, it has also caused stress and uncertainty for millions of students across the country.

The NTA has assured candidates that a fresh examination will be conducted soon and that all necessary steps will be taken to maintain the integrity of the process. Meanwhile, the ongoing investigation and CBI probe are expected to uncover the truth behind the alleged paper leak network.

Students are advised to stay calm, continue their preparation, and wait for official announcements regarding the re-examination schedule.
